The calculator estimates torch-on time from the total cut length and entered cutting speed. It then adds pierce time, quantity, setup or programming time, machine cost, consumable cost, optional material cost, and an adjustable waste factor.

How the CNC Plasma Cutting Cost Is Calculated

Cut time per part is calculated from the total cutting path divided by the entered cutting speed. Pierce time is calculated from the number of pierces multiplied by the entered pierce delay.

The calculator multiplies the cutting and piercing time by the quantity, adds setup and programming time, and applies the machine hourly rate. Consumables and optional material cost are then added to produce the total job estimate and estimated cost per part.

Costs to Consider Before Quoting a Plasma-Cut Job

A complete selling price may need to account for more than cutting time and raw material. Consider programming, drawing cleanup, nesting, loading, unloading, plate handling, edge cleanup, grinding, drilling, bending, welding, finishing, inspection, packaging, delivery, payment fees, taxes, overhead, and profit.

For repeat work, compare the estimate with the actual time and material used. Updating your machine rate, setup allowance, consumable allowance, and waste factor with real shop data will produce more useful future estimates.

Browser-based DXF analysis is intended as a planning aid. Unsupported entities, duplicated geometry, open contours, construction lines, splines, blocks, text, scaling errors, and hidden layers may affect the calculated path length or pierce count.

Confirm the final geometry in your CAD, CAM, or nesting software before using the result for a customer quote or production plan.
